Chair applications

Chair the
General Assembly.

One committee of sixty. Two chairs and two vice-chairs. Selected by application, not appointed.

The Global 60 New York  ·  28 April – 1 May 2027
01 The role

Sixty delegates.
A dais of four.

One committee: a simulation of the United Nations General Assembly. All sixty delegates in one room, with a dais of two chairs and two vice-chairs. Topics released to admitted delegates ahead of the conference.

What a chair does

  • Runs three committee sessions with a co-chair and leads the General Assembly to its final vote
  • Writes the Committee Background Guide with the dais and the academic team, once topics are approved
  • Reads every position paper before New York and gives written feedback where the handbook provides for it
  • Keeps standard Model UN rules of procedure, and keeps sixty people moving: speakers' list, timed speeches, structured caucuses
  • Judges the four academic awards with the rest of the dais and the academic team
  • Holds the room to the conduct expected of diplomats: respect for every delegate, zero tolerance for harassment

What a vice-chair does

  • Supports the chair in session: speakers' list, timing, motions, voting records
  • Co-writes the Background Guide and shares the position-paper reading
  • Takes the chair when needed and leads unmoderated caucus support
  • Co-judges the awards
  • Is one of four adults on the dais of a committee that includes under-18s
